Temporary exhibition of Contemporary Art “Impressions of Camellia and Lemon”, by Isabel Pavão
2024-02-24 – 2024-06-02
The series «Impressions of Camellia and Lemon», is a deeply reflective visual exploration of nature, childhood, beauty, ancestral origins and memories. The artist’s personal connection to camellias and lemon stems, from childhood memories, served as a source of inspiration. These plants symbolize cultural migrations and ancient stories, reflecting the artist’s interest in her ancestral origins in the Middle East (Syria) and the East (China and Japan). The series also explores emotional symbols of love, sadness, abundance, survival, resilience, hope and beauty. This project combines a historical/conceptual dimension with an emotional/poetic one, constructing an autobiographical narrative. It contemplates the experience of time, exploring suspended time, “intermediate” moments, and a journey through time that transcends the boundaries of past and future. Time is portrayed as a contextual illusion.
Twenty-two paintings are distributed throughout the permanent exhibition of the Ducal Palace, in some cases overlapping with the representation of camellias and lemons in the Palace’s collection. It is a beautiful and fruitful dialogue between the contemporary and the ancestral.
