A bust of an adult man. His head is turning to the left, he has short hair and a beard. He wears a brown-gold textile cloak embroidered with parallel stripes of bright colours and with a long fringe that crosses his naked chest, which is adorned with a necklace of yellow beads.

In the mid-19th century, several Scientific Expeditions were organized with the aim of investigating and studying territories, people, and arts that were still little known. The results were usually recorded through written reports, meticulous scientific drawings and anthropological sculptures. At the same time, an artistic trend was established in Europe that aroused a taste for exoticism and influenced the work of French artists. These were followed, among others, by Portuguese and Brazilians, mainly in the modelling of sculptures of anthropological features, but already with an aesthetic basis, as is the case of this bust in which is combined an artistic expression, with the exoticism of the textile and personal ornaments, thus creating an expressive and strong human portrait.
