Textile Collection
This is the most important and significant collection in the Ducal Palace’s catalogue.
Maria José Taxinha helped in the choice of some of the acquired tapestries which facilitated the assembly of a high-quality national and foreign collection.
Three 16th century Persian “Salting” rugs must be emphasized and they are praiseworthy due to their rarity and technical expertise. There are also several 17th century Flemish tapestries.
Another collection is noteworthy: the Pastrana collection. It is composed of the unique copies of the tapestries that portray some of the first conquests of the Portuguese in the north side of Africa in 1471, specifically the cities of Arzila and Tangier.
