Scipio’s Chamber
This chamber – along with the bedchamber and the antechamber – were private quarters for Afonso, the 1st Duke of Braganza, in the 1st floor. There were three other private chambers on the upper floor.
The chamber owes its name for the walls are decorated with four tapestries depicting the “History of Scipio”. These were made in Brussels, in the second quarter of the 17th century, in the Workshop of the Weaver Andries van den Dries. Woven in wool and silk, all bare vegetal motives with interwoven flowers and fruits.
One may also see several pieces of furniture and pottery.
