Angel candleholders, with or without wings, portray human characteristics and were commonly produced in pairs so one countered the other.
These pieces were commonly placed close to the entrance of a sanctuary – inviting believers to participate in the Liturgy – or they were set to illuminate the altar in order to emphasize the solemnity of the Service.
