A parallelepiped stationary cabinet in walnut which closes with two lids. The interior has six drawers – simulating eleven – with shell-shaped handles. It is decorated with vegetal and phytomorphic motifs, as well as with a painted bicephalous eagle flanked by balusters.
This portable piece of furniture may also be called portable cabinet or table cabinet, given its compact dimensions. It has compartments where writing accessories – paper, pens, sealing wax, inkwells, etc. – would be stored and a folding lid meant for writing.
Over time, these objects changed, rendering the demand, styles and tastes of each era. They developed into larger pieces of furniture (retaining the portable character), set on bases with drawers or doors or simply on four legged frames.
