This is one of two Tapestries representing scenes depicting the Roman Goddess Diana as ‘The Hunter’.

The goddess is represented in both Tapestries, with her bow and the quiver of arrows, with which she will successfully conclude the hunt that is unfolding in each of the tapestries. The scenes unravel in the heart of a leafy landscape, where the Goddess is accompanied by two figures, here substituting the nymphs of Classic compositions. The goddess is dressed in a fluttering golden-yellow dress and is wielding her bow in the course of the hunt.

She has already shot the boar – seen near the trees – and is trying to free itself from the dogs that are now attacking. On the right-hand side, one of the figures wields a spear; he wears golden armour over red clothing and a mantle, which is attached to the shoulder.
