Goblets and chalices have similar shapes but they vary in its name rendering their function. Goblets were used for drinking and were no more than glasses – although somewhat larger and heavier than those used today – but, curiously, beverages such as wine were often drunk not only in their natural state but also heated.

Regarding tin, it is one of the oldest metals known to man. It is silvery, malleable and resistant to corrosion and oxidation. Joined with copper it allowed the manufacture of brass, which was fundamental during the Copper Ages. Later on, in the Middle Ages, tin was used in everyday life pieces, particularly in the manufacture of flatware.
