St. Michael’s Chamber

St. Michael’s Chamber

St. Michael’s Chamber

This chamber is located in one of the west wing turrets of the Palace. The dimensions and distribution of these areas are very similar to the opposite turret that was used by the Duke in the 15th century. It is not known to whom this turret belonged, but it would surely have a noble use.

The chamber owes its name to a 16th century Portuguese Limestone Sculpture of St. Michael – the Archangel – where the Saint is represented as a warrior.

Besides two cabinets known as Bargueños, one may see the last of the Flemish Tapestries from the Publius Decius Mus collection and a Portuguese mirror with a high-quality carved frame from the 18th century.
